Deputy Director/Child Welfare Agency Attorney

Overview
The Child Welfare Attorney plays a crucial role in advocating for the best interests of children and families involved in child welfare cases. This position requires a dedicated legal professional who is passionate about child advocacy and possesses a strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations. The Child Welfare Attorney will work closely with various stakeholders, including social workers, court officials, and families, to ensure that children’s rights are protected and that their needs are met throughout legal proceedings.

Duties

Represent Guernsey County Children Services in child welfare cases, including abuse, neglect, and dependency.
Conduct thorough legal research to stay informed on current laws and regulations affecting child welfare.
Prepare legal documents, pleadings, and briefs related to child welfare matters.
Litigate cases in court, presenting evidence and arguments to support the best interests of children.
Maintain organized case files and documentation within the law office.
Effectively recommends and applies disciplinary procedures.
Serves as member of agency management team in developing, evaluating, and implementing administrative and personnel policies and procedures.
Works with other supervisors in agency and community organizations to resolve complaints and grievances, to clarify policies, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Advises Director of service needs; recommends priorities; plans, monitors, and evaluates programs.
Drafts contracts and other legal documents using competitive procurement as directed.
Manages agency response to requests for records and public records requests.
Skills

Juris Doctorate Degree and license to practice law in Ohio.
Strong proficiency in legal research and analysis.
Excellent litigation skills with a proven ability to advocate effectively in court.
Familiarity with various areas of law including child welfare and tribal law regulations.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for drafting legal documents.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple cases simultaneously.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge of legal administrative processes relevant to child welfare cases.
