Series examines evolution of children services

In a three-part series that aired throughout the month, Public News Service looked at the past, present and future of children services.

Titled “The Evolution of Ohio’s Children Services System,” the series features Lucas County Children Services Executive Director Robin Reese, Warren County Children Services Executive Director Susan Walther and Alexandra Citrin of the Center for the Study of Social Policy.

Be sure to read or listen to the audio of all three parts:

  • Part 1: Children Services is tasked with protecting the safety, well-being, and permanency of children and families, but some experts say it has not escaped its origins as a system that separates.
  • Part 2: As policymakers and child welfare leaders move to transform the foster-care system, advocates say there are misconceptions about the work going on.
  • Part 3: In a system plagued by a history of disparities, Ohio’s child-welfare workers and children’s advocates say it is time to reimagine child protection.
