Family Finding Convening offers training, planning to improve permanency
Kinship was a primary focus of today’s Family Finding Convening 2.0 in Columbus, hosted by Waiting Child Fund with financial support from PCSAO and Casey Family Programs.
More than 120 public and private agency staff, court personnel and others came together for the second annual convening. Dr. Sharon McDaniel of A Second Chance, Inc. in Pittsburgh delivered the keynote on the importance of finding kin placements for youth in child protection custody. Morning breakout sessions covered engagement, licensing, legal issues and innovative practice in kinship.
During lunch youth advocates from You Gotta Believe and the Nobody Ages Out movement committed to bringing that curriculum to Ohio, followed by a caregiver panel that discussed the challenges of and proposals for improving kin care. Afternoon sessions focused on strategic planning around engagement, implementation, and legislation.
The one-day convening also featured a road map (pictured) to full integration of family search and engagement in Ohio. Additional information and materials are available at www.permanency.org.
