LEADS and Protecting Children


LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) - The FBI has recently awarded Ohio permission for authorities to immediately share LEADS computerized criminal history information with PCSAs at the time of immediate placement (vs. waiting for BCI&I processing of fingerprint images), in order to support safe placements.  It is contingent upon
submitting fingerprint images for accurate confirmation of the individuals, within 15 days.  This information will provide essential safety data at the time of placement, supporting safe and stable environments (vs. causing a move later when an unacceptable criminal history is discovered).

PCSAO has developed an overview, and a Model Protocol for Local Access of LEADS for Child Welfare
