Benefits and Services for Agency Executives

As an association of public children services agencies, PCSAO was established in part to promote system-wide excellence and program improvement. Among the many benefits available to agencies and agency staff, we provide a number of services specially designed for agency executives, including directors and child welfare administrators. The only cost associated with most services relates to travel, food, and accommodations.

orientation  Executive Orientation
Brand-new executives and their senior managers may attend a two-day orientation and training, offered annually, to learn about best practices, to network with peers, and to gain the skills they need to hit the ground running. Topics have included county government, financial management, legislative advocacy, creating public value, executive/board relationship, media relations, personnel administration and collective bargaining, and levy campaign development and implementation. The next orientation is scheduled for April 25-26, 2012. Email
Rhonda@pcsao.org for more information.
Meeting  Executive Membership Meetings
Three times a year, agency executives are invited to a two-day meeting to learn about the latest trends, exchange information, and improve skills. Open to PCSAO members only, these meetings offer ample opportunity to interact and recharge. In 2012, these meetings will be March 13-14 in Columbus, June 21-22 at Mohican State Park, and December 6-7 in Columbus.
coaching  Executive Coaching
A pool of specially trained coaches – many retired agency executives themselves – is available to offer one-on-one coaching over a three- or six-month period. Coaches provide in-depth and personalized assistance on one or more topics identified by the executive. To discuss coaching, email  Scott@pcsao.org or call Scott Britton at 614-224-5802. Executive coaching is a collaborative project of PCSAO and the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program.
Listserv

Executive Listserv
Executives can get immediate feedback from their peers across the state by using a closed, secure email listserv. Topics run the gamut in this informal, collegial virtual setting.

webinar

Distance Learning Webinars
Execs and senior managers can get up to speed on a new topic or take a refresher course – without leaving their desk. Distance learning webinars allow teams to participate in high-quality training (with credit). Topics to date have included teamwork, strategic planning, and levy campaigns, with more in the works.

Funds

Dan Schneider Child Welfare Executive Leadership Scholarship Fund
Established as a memorial to PCSAO’s founding director, the leadership fund provides scholarships for the professional development of executives and their management staff. Scholarships support the cost of training registration, course fees, and consultation (including books but not including room and board or travel), and require a 25% minimum match by the executive or agency.
