Family-centered,
neighborhood-based (FCNB) services is an approach to working with
children, families and communities. It is based on the
principle that the first and greatest investment in time and
resources should be made in the care and treatment of
children in their own homes, and when not possible, in their own
communities. It is based on the premise that
neighborhoods are the primary source of opportunity and support
for families and are, therefore, primarily responsible for
assuring the safety and vitality of their members.

Family-Centered, Neighborhood-Based Approach to CPS is a chance to
rethink, redesign, and rebuild the child protective service
system. It is based on a new way of providing services to
families whose children need out-of-home living arrangements.

Ohio's FCNB Child Protective Services Approach:
- Instill family-focused values into all child-serving agencies
- Provide services that are less intrusive and disruptive to the lives of
families and children
- Become more community-centered and culturally-sensitive
- Provide services that address the individual needs of the child and family
- Orient services toward family care rather than institutional or congregate
care
PCSAO has training materials, literature, and consultation services available
