Family to Family

Ohio's Family to Family initiative is a chance to rethink, redesign, and rebuild the child protective service system.  It is based on a new way of providing services to families whose children need out-of-home living arrangements.  Ohio is coordinating its effort with the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Ohio's Family to Family Goals are:

  • Reduce the number of children in institutional and congregate care
  • Decrease the length of children's stay in out-of-home placement
  • Increase in the number of planned reunifications
  • Decrease the number of unplanned reentries into care
  • Reduce the total number of children served away from their families
  • Decrease the number of placement disruptions
  • Shift resources from institutional/congregate care to family foster care and family-centered services

Ohio's Child Protective Services Reform:

  • Instill family-focused values into all child-serving agencies
  • Provide services that are less intrusive and disruptive to the lives of families and children
  • Become more community-centered and culturally-sensitive
  • Provide services that address the individual needs of the child and family
  • Orient services toward family care rather than institutional or congregate care

PCSAO has training materials, literature, and consultation services available to help you recreate your child protective services system to better serve families and children in your community.
